KARAMATSU MATSUNO

Canonpoint: Post-series
Age: Early to Mid 20s
Wish: "To have the gaze of the world facing my direction without the guilt of hurting them... of course, that's my wish!"
Result: It's granted through his magic, and through being able to leave Akatsuka Ward and come to Nyoi-cho. Surely, no one would be able to ignore him there.
Weapon: A glistening, blue mirror shield, with a large image of his face on it.
Outfit: Magical NEET Karamatsu.

Powers

┬╗ Passive Ability: Intermittently, there's a chance that the words he can say can cause pain as long as he doesn't feel any guilt or shame towards it. This affects both familiars and other magi. The pain depends on how horrible the statement was, and how much shame the other person has hearing it.

┬╗ Active Ability: With a snap of his fingers, he can summon a bright spotlight that sways up to three familiars to only focus on him for up to ten seconds. It also blinds other magi who look in his direction.

1/24 Update: Perfect Fashion - Karamatsu can change what his magi outfit looks like, but can only do this once a day.

4/20 Update: Karamatsu Illusion - Shining Form - Karamatsu gains the ability to project small beams of light from his shield, generally in the shape of really obnoxiously glowing stars. They don't do much in the way of attack power, but they're plenty distracting and is like getting attacked by little glowing pebbles constantly.

The upgrade is he can charge up his shield's ability, he can make one shape out of those stars. It takes a ridiculous amount of magic, but is really, really goddamn painful for anything that gets in the crosshairs. Not enough to kill someone-- he hopes. He can only use it once per battle and he'll be pretty damn spent after that.

First things first: Karamatsu was apped in from the October '16 Fourth Wall Event. This means he was around as a Wraith and had a confrontation with magi before arriving in town. Just as a heads up! Second, that passive seems pretty annoying, right? If you'd like to opt out of that, comment here.

I'm fine with fourth-walling and violence of all kinds against Karamatsu in all honesty. Shipping, please talk to me first-- because seriously why would you want to put your character through that. Always willing to backtag, just hit me up!

Character name: Karamatsu Matsuno
Age: Early-to-Mid 20s.
Canon: Osomatsu-san
Canonpoint: Post-series

Background: Osomatsu-kun, Osomatsu-san, Karamatsu.

Personality: Karamatsu lives his life like someone on the cover of a style magazine, for better or for worse. If there's one true word to describe him, it's flashy. The flashiest lines, the flashiest clothes, and he strives to have the flashiest personality out of the sextuplets. He's constantly reading magazines, trying out different poses and comments, wearing clothes that make him give off the illusion of someone who's actually cool. He's got his trademark shades, his leather jacket with a skull on it, and what looks to be a devil may care attitude. Truly, this man is what every man wants to be and who every woman wants to be with. Karamatsu tries his hardest to look stylish, all the time.

Except, when everyone else looks back at him, they just see someone that exudes painful narcissism. If there's one thing Karamatsu lacks, it's self-awareness. At the beginning of Episode 10, he has a discussion with Osomatsu regarding the term painful and why that would apply to him, believing that all he does is cause pain, though he doesn't kick or hit anyone. A lot of that is because he is painful. The clothes he insists are cool are gaudy overly sequinned nightmares and his lines are generally nonsensical. He wears colored contacts, shirts with his face on them, extremely short jean shorts, and dressed as a cowboy at a baseball game for literally no good reason. It's all for the sake of standing out and looking cool. It truly looks like he's in his own world most of the time, not paying any attention to anyone else's perception of him, all the while fishing wearing the worst clothes, using a love letter as bait.

It works both for him and against him. While he calls attention to himself for looking and sounding like a tool, a lot of his comments go ignored. It doesn't stop him from making more and it doesn't cause him to change at all, but the chilly reception that he gets from is still noticable. He acknowledges the trend of him getting ignored and wanting to get rid of that if he becomes the main character, though he doesn't make much of an effort to change his ways at all, aside from the Letter episode (which had everything change back to the way it was the next week.)

Him getting ignored has roots right near the beginning of the series: with everyone glancing away when he makes a stupid comment-- but it goes further in the Karamatsu Incident, where not only is he ignored in favor of sliced pears, but none of his brothers pay much attention when he's been kidnapped and presumably tortured, much to his chagrin. Karamatsu is treated as an afterthought, even played for laughs in the same episode as he's the punchline to the heartrending ESP Kitty, completely forgotten about by everyone by the end of it. He breaks down in tears in the middle of his episode, left for dead and showing up at the end to lament how the others treat Ichimatsu completely differently, with patience and kindness after it's revealed that he just wants friends.

Compared to the other six, while he might lack social awareness, he gives off a kinder aura than the others. It's been described as more narcissism on his part: he wants to give off the illusion that he's a kind person, though it's more for his own self-benefit. While he can be seen looking concerned for Chibita and his loneliness, he casts that to the side immediately to focus on himself when he finds out how Chibita's problem was fixed. He's also the type to run away right in the middle of saying he's going to help them, seeming kind yet not showing it at all. Still, he does pretend to have more love in his heart than he truly does, wanting to be kind to his brothers while still being shitty about it, for the most part. Of course, just for that ideal impression he wishes to give out, he'll go to the ends of the Earth for his brothers, to treat them while they're sick.

In the end, he is still a Matsuno sextuplet, bottom of the barrel trash. He goes along with everything that the others do, as a part of the classic Osomatsu hivemind where all six of them get into trouble. He has no actual ambition, having no plans when it comes to employment and not taking it seriously when they go to the office, spouting the same kind of delusional nonsense as he usually does. He, like the others, will follow Osomatsu and pile on whatever activity they're doing, be it working to pay for rental girlfriends or just generally being a nuisance. He's a NEET through and through, and doesn't plan to really change for anyone. Though he acts as he would in Letter-- making an attempt to craft a resume and finally, form a plan. Like the others, he goes back to the way he was... and remains at the bottom of the caste system, with the rest of his brothers.

Wish: "To have the gaze of the world facing my direction without the guilt of hurting them... of course, that's my wish!"

It's a garbage wish, naturally.

It's a wish born out of narcissism and his typical shitty Matsu behavior, wanting everyone to take notice of him and not consider him painful. Worded differently, it might be somewhat desperate and might have a different effect. Instead, it sounds like someone just wants to be at the center of attention.

When he meets with Kyuubey, he might have the thought in his head that this would be a good chance to change. But instead, it'd be born out of that need to be accepted and noticed by the entire world. After all, when he speaks and he gives his cool lines, his brothers ignore him, the world ignores him, and calls him painful. He wonders how he could live with himself being such devilish man, a guilt guy who does nothing but hurt those he loves. So basically, it's a way to absolve himself from his painful comments, while keeping everyone's eyes on him.

When it's granted, it'll be through his abilities. The gaze of the world will be on him-- in a way.

Passive ability: Intermittently, there's a chance that the words he can say can cause pain as long as he doesn't feel any guilt or shame towards it. This affects both familiars and other magi. The pain depends on how horrible the statement was, and how much shame the other person has hearing it.

Considering Karamatsu wished to not have to have the guilt of hurting them, it's as simple as that. He won't feel guilty, and they'll still feel pain-- only this time, due to the nature of his wish, it's physical. It's surprisingly easy considering how guiltless he generally is when he makes stupid comments.

Active ability: With a snap of his fingers, he can summon a bright spotlight that sways up to three familiars to only focus on him for up to ten seconds. It also blinds other magi who look in his direction.

The main point of Karamatsu's wish is that he's craving attention from his peers. As a result of this, his active ability would only have the ability to draw attention to himself, be it through the magic ability at the familiars or it being bright and obnoxious to look at. As a result, his active ability will draw familiars in-- but because of the nature of his wish, it will also once again, cause pain for those around him who do pay attention to him.

Weapon: A glistening, blue mirror shield, with a large image of his face on it. (It might as well not even be a mirror.)

4th Wall Threads: Regular Karamatsu
Wraith Karamatsu

Additional Memories?: The only thing he'll be retaining from others is knowledge of the existence of Nightmares and Witches.
